About Westlake, CA

Westlake Village is a city in Southern California located at the border of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The area around the city was originally inhabited by the Chumash Indians, who settled in the area for thousands of years.

The modern history of Westlake Village began in the late 1800s when Spanish explorers began to colonize Southern California and established missions across the region as well as spreading Christianity to the local Native American population.

In 1848, California was ceded to the United States as a result of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo following their victory in the Mexican-American War. Westlake was then primarily used for agriculture and later, oil drilling and real estate.

In the late 20th century, a large portion of Westlake was bought by the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company to develop an exclusive community, terraforming the land and creating an artificial lake that is now known as Westlake Lake.

Today, Westlake is famous for its beautiful scenery, great food scene, and deep roots in many of the cultural and historical influences which make it one of the top communities to live in Southern California.
